Former Evansville Reporter Casualty of Morning Show Cancellation

KWQC-TV, the NBC affiliate in Davenport, has canceled its Saturday morning newscasts after laying off 12 employees.Among the group was Chris Williams, the station's weekend news anchor, said Rick Greenlee, a veteran production director.Greenlee said the other layoffs included nine production workers, a receptionist and a building maintenance worker.KWQC is owned by Young Broadcasting, which is facing financial struggles linked to debt and advertising vulnerability.Don Ciaramella, spokesman for Young Broadcasting, declined to offer details of layoffs at KWQC or other Young stations.The station has canceled the news programs at 6:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. Saturday.

Chris Williams is a former Evansville freelance reporter/producer and a former member of the Ohio Valley Emmy Board of Governors.
