The Ville Voice Splits With the CW
The new owners of CW affiliate WBKI-TV, Iowa-based Fusion Communications, fired station manager and Louisville Live morning host Dan Spangler on Tuesday. Yesterday, they notified us, through Craig Hoffman, that they no longer want a ‘Ville Voice/Page One segment on the morning show.
Hoffman gave no specific reason for the change, mumbling something about the way new management always makes changes, that they’re adding some things and taking away some things, that it was nothing personal. That’s not exactly true

Digital May Deliver for the CW
While some station execs and government wonks fret over the digital TV transition, others are starting to see opportunity.
The long-awaited -- and long-delayed -- move from analog to digital will serve as a great equalizer for TV stations that until now were second-class citizens in the over-the-air spectrum.
And that could mean wider audiences for the sources that provide programs for those stations -- including, most notably, the CW.

Louisville's CW Wants to Clear the Air
Here’s a follow-up to yesterday’s story about the CW. The station’s CEO, Carol LaFever, was understandably upset when she learned a competitor was telling advertisers that her station might fold in a few weeks and was being evicted from its building.
First, it wasn’t true. And more importantly, it could be bad for business. We certainly believe that Fox41’s Bill Lamb put an immediate stop to the rumor-spreading when he found out about it, but LaFever was compelled to write a letter explaining the station’s status.

Buckeyes Compete to be the Next CW Star
Two Ohio State students want to be the next "face" of a local television network. Seniors Nick Uhas and Vicki Bouttavong are competing with eight others from the Columbus area for the title of CW Star. The CW is a national network that has a station, WWHO-TV, in Columbus. The station is trying to find a talented young person to be a spokesperson for the network.

Time Warner Cable Brings Back The CW in Columbus
Time Warner Cable and a tv station owner have made a deal ending a monthlong standoff that blacked out local channels in Ohio and across the country.
The nation's second-largest cable operator has agreed to pay undisclosed retransmission fees to LIN TV, which operates local stations affiliated with NBC, CBS, FOX and CW.
The 14 stations covered by the nationwide agreement include three in Ohio: WDTN, the NBC station in Dayton; Toledo FOX station WUPW; and WWHO, the CW network affiliate in Columbus.
Retransmission fees have long been a sore spot for cable companies.
TV station operators recently have been asking for fees per subscriber instead of, for example, agreements to buy advertising.

News at 10 in Louisville Returns
After being taken off the air Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the WHAS-TV News at 10 aired again on WBKI-TV, the CW, last night. Neither station returned my calls for comment, but I should have more details on the situation later today. The CW has aired the program since 2005.
In October, the WHAS news airing on the CW earned a 2.3 rating. Its primary competitor, Fox41, earned a 5.8 on nights that it wasn’t pre-empted by the World Series or debate coverage. The station typically airs its news on sister station WMYO when that happens, where it has earned a 4.0 rating this month.

Columbus Dispatch Columnist Says Viewers Don't Miss the CW
Maybe as a TV critic I shouldn't admit this, but I have no idea what's happening on 90210.
Or Gossip Girl, America's Next Top Model or Everybody Hates Chris.
In my defense, I'm not totally to blame.
Like many other cable customers in central Ohio, I subscribe to Time Warner. For two weeks, the area's largest cable provider hasn't carried the CW, home to these and other shows.

WWHO Gone from Time Warner in Columbus
Central Ohio Time Warner subscribers hoping to see America's Next Top Model last night instead got the Starz Kids & Family Channel.
Time Warner Cable dropped WWHO-TV (Channel 53) yesterday morning after the company and the station's owner failed to reach a contract agreement.
WWHO carries the CW network, which offers such shows as America's Next Top Model, Everybody Hates Chris, 90210 and Gossip Girl. Time Warner carries the network mostly on Channel 13 in central Ohio.

HDTV Switch Limits New Shows
The more things change, the more they stay the same - particularly in broadcasting this season.
Viewers will see the most radical change in the 60-year history of TV - the switch to digital broadcasting Feb. 17 - during a TV season with the fewest new fall shows (17) in two decades.
The major TV networks, still recovering from the crippling writers' strike last winter, trimmed their new series offerings to give another chance to promising shows cut short last season.
