Time Warner Re-Organizing Channels in Cincy and Dayton
TWC Re-Organizing Channels Here: We first saw the required FCC notice on Time Warner's Cincinnati-area website, stating that a bunch of channels were about to be dropped, moved or added. Here's the page if you're interested. We didn't post it because we did not have a hard date, or confirmation that these would even occur. Now we do...it'll be August 25, reports John Kiesewetter. And local PBS members/viewers won't be happy in either Dayton OR Cincinnati.

WTVW's Jackie Monroe Moves to WFIE
Viewers won't be seeing television news anchor Jackie Monroe on Evansville's airwaves any time soon — but she's still around and plans to return.
Monroe, who formerly co-anchored the 6, 6:30 and 9 p.m. newscasts at local Fox affiliate WTVW, has left that station to work for Evansville's NBC affiliate, 14WFIE-NBC. Monroe's last day of employment at WTVW was Friday, and her last day on the air was July 10.

What Walter Cronkite Meant to Local News
He was seen right here on Channel 9 and around the world.Friday night legendary CBS News anchor Walter Cronkite died. Before Twitter, Facebook and the Internet, news stations received all the incoming news from one printer. The evening 9News spoke with the man who saved a very important piece of paper from that printer; the original copy that came into Channel 9's newsroom when Cronkite announced his retirement.

The Peggy Mitchell Show Memorabilia on Display
Fans of “The Peggy Mitchell Show” can get a close-up look at puppets, pictures and other memorabilia from the show in an exhibit at Central Library.
Mitchell, who died in April at age 73, hosted “The Peggy Mitchell Show” on WEHT Channel 25 from 1961-86. The show’s puppet characters included Ezmarelda, Terrible Tilly and Monkey Shine, and Mitchell often invited Tri-State children to join her on the show.
Other items in the exhibit include Mitchell’s puppet house, news stories and music. All of the items are on loan from Mitchell’s son, Kirk.
The exhibit is on display in the library’s lobby through the end of August.

Criticism of WEHT Promos Sparks Lively Online Debate
Last Friday, I posted an entry about WEHT's new station promos, and my feelings about them.If nothing else, it's certainly sparked a lively discussion, based on the comments that have been posted since then. Earl Waitman, whose job it is to make the promos for WEHT, had this to say:
There was a time in TV when all stations took shots at each other. Almost all competitors in every line of work invite direct comparison. If you are proud of your product you have nothing to fear. These promos do nothing more than invite the viewer to make a direct comparison between the tv newscasts and not be brainwashed into watching a certain station's news. If this wish of free will and independent thought is somehow disturbing to you, I would suggest that you are completely missing the point of WEHT's promos.

WLEX Institutes Second Furlough
With the economy still struggling, Lexington's NBC affiliate is furloughing its employees for the second time this year."It was certainly the least painful option that we had, and it was one that kept everyone working, albeit at a lesser level," said WLEX (Channel 18) General Manager Pat Dalbey.Employees will be required to take four unpaid days off during the second half of the year, he said.

WTVQ to Broadcast Some UK Games
When the Southeastern Conference announced a 15-year deal with ESPN last fall, it was unclear how University of Kentucky athletics fans might be affected.
Would basketball and football games be broadcast on a lesser-known ESPN channel that might not be offered by area cable providers?
Because ESPN is owned by ABC, would major games go to Lexington ABC affiliate WTVQ (Channel 36)?
