Columbus Sports Reporters Having a Bad Week
It’s been a bad week for TV sports reporters in Columbus.
Last week it was announced that NBC 4’s Omar Ruiz had left the sports crew and returned to his native California.
The move seemed way too sudden to be amiable, as Ruiz’s presence was quickly removed from the station’s website (even the “Deep Thoughts” blog, for goodness sake.)

Kentucky Native Hits "The Deep End"
The hot new attorney at one of Los Angeles' most prestigious law firms hails from Winchester.
Well, the attorney doesn't. Dylan Hewitt grew up in a working-class New England family and went to Yale and Columbia universities. But Matt Long, the actor who plays Dylan on ABC's new drama, The Deep End, hails from the home of Ale-8-One.

KET Says Experience Counts in New Director
In choosing its new executive director, the leaders of Kentucky Educational Television decided against a national search and promoted an internal executive who dropped out of college before joining the network for a nearly 25-year career.
It's an educational background that might seem surprising, but it is not unprecedented, national observers say, and also comes at a time when many state networks are promoting staffers to save the costs and time-consuming nature of searches.

Julie Tam Leaving Fox 41
TIME TO SAY GOODBYE… I’m
leaving WDRB-TV FOX 41 in early 2010, after more than 4 years as a news
reporter and anchor here. Early on, I fell in love with Louisville and
the surrounding towns throughout Ke…ntucky and Southern Indiana, where
I’ve traveled to cover news and on my own time for pleasure. It’s a
beautiful and convenient place to live. I love our house and our
exquisite neighborhood. Now it’s time to move on.

Why Dale Huffman Loves Dayton
With the surprise exit of NCR Corp. and the shuttering of most GM projects here — the Dayton skyline looms a shade or two darker at the conclusion of 2009.
Even though it won’t be remembered as our city’s most lighthearted year, it is time to share my annual list of reasons why I love my hometown of Dayton, Ohio.
I hope you agree with me that we do have things to be thankful for.
In no specific order are 16 positive things we can count on as we head down the paths of 2010. As always, we will greet familiar adventures, and explore the challenges destined to surprise us.

Springer vs. Cunningham - Were You Surprised?
Score Round One for Jerry Springer. That’s my take on the “Jerry & Bill Show,” the pilot for a weekly debate show starring Springer and 700 WLW-AM’s Bill Cunningham that aired Sunday night on WXIX-TV (Ch 19).
I’m still stunned from hearing conservative Cunningham declare that there “aren’t any dirt poor” people in the the United States. And that all the poor people in this country are overweight. He said: “We have fat poor people.”

More Weather Shakeups in Cincinnati
Valerie Abati will move to weekends, and Eric Green move to Albuquerque, after Kevin Robinson arrives today at WLWT-TV from the Weather Channel. Robinson, 30, a 1997 Princeton High School graduate, replaces chief meteorologist Derek Beasley, who quit in August to become chief forecaster for a Mobile station. Robinson will debut here on the 5, 6 & 11 p.m. newscasts by the end of the week, once he’s comfortable with the technology, says GM Richard Dyer.

Leno at 10 Ends on the 11th
NBCU Television Entertainment Chairman Jeff Gaspin tells TV critics in Los Angeles that the low-rated primetime hour will end the night before NBC's telecast of the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics. Primetime Leno "did not meet affiliates' needs," he says. Replacing Leno after the Olympics will be a mix of original shows, repeats, extended Dateline and shows pulled from cable nets Bravo and USA, he says.

Why Andrews is Out at 11 on WKRC
So why did WKRC-TV remove Kit Andrews from Channel 12's 11 p.m. news last week after 19 years?
The official word from Local 12 was that she "expressed an interest in ... a lifestyle change."
But Channel 12 also was looking for a ratings boost by promoting Cammy Dierking to main co-anchor with Rob Braun.
Clyde Gray and Carol Williams on WCPO-TV (Channel 9) have been closing the gap at 11 p.m.

WLWT's Ken Broo Talks About Heart Attack
Channel 5 sports anchor Ken Broo has spent a lot of time the past 10 days thinking about “What if?” What if his heart attack came two days later – the Saturday after Christmas, instead of Christmas eve morning — when he would have been driving to New Orleans to cover the Sugar Bowl for WLWT-TV?
